An online ordering system for restaurants is paid for in two very different ways: **a flat monthly fee** (from a few tens of euros to around a hundred per venue in published price lists) or **a percentage of every order**, as marketplaces charge. On top of that there are almost always **payment fees** on orders paid online and, sometimes, an upfront cost for a website or an app.

Below you will find each cost item, an example calculation at 300 and 600 orders a month, and the prices some providers publish on their own websites.

## The cost items of an online ordering system

When you compare two offers, line up these five items. A price often looks low only because one item is written somewhere else.

1. **Monthly or yearly fee.** The fixed amount for using the software. Check whether it is per venue, billed monthly or once a year, and whether there is an order cap.
2. **Per-order commission.** Some systems have no fee but take a percentage or a fixed amount on every order. Others sell order "bundles".
3. **Payment fees.** If the guest pays online by card, the payment provider (for example Stripe) keeps a fee. It depends on the card type and the country, and it applies with any software. Orders paid in cash on delivery carry none.
4. **One-off costs.** Activation, menu setup, development of a custom website or app, printing QR codes.
5. **Separate modules.** Store app, online payments, loyalty programme: some providers sell them apart from the base fee.

Then there are the **marketplaces** (Glovo, Just Eat and similar): usually no significant fee, but a **commission on every order** that depends on the contract and the services included (for example delivery by their riders); in the example below we use two hypothetical rates, 15% and 35%. We cover this in detail in [the hidden costs of delivery marketplaces](https://sigital.io/blog/hidden-costs-delivery-marketplaces).

## Monthly cost: an example with 300 and 600 orders

> **Example with hypothetical numbers**
>
> The numbers in this section are made up to show the method: an average order of €25, 300 or 600 orders a month. They are not the figures of a real venue. Replace them with yours.

A pizzeria with an average order of €25 takes €7,500 a month with 300 orders and €15,000 with 600 orders. This is what the system costs under each model:

| Model | 300 orders (€7,500) | 600 orders (€15,000) |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace at 15% commission | €1,125 | €2,250 |
| Marketplace at 35% commission | €2,625 | €5,250 |
| Hypothetical software with a 5% per-order commission | €375 | €750 |
| Flat fee of €60 per month | €60 | €60 |
| Payment fees on orders paid online | separate | separate |

Two things to note:

- **Payment fees are deliberately not quantified.** They depend on your guests' cards, the country and how many pay online rather than on delivery. They apply in every model where the guest pays by card; with marketplaces, how they are handled depends on the contract.
- **A marketplace is not just a cost.** It brings guests who do not know you yet and, if the contract includes it, riders too. With your own system you organise delivery yourself and you bring the guests yourself (QR code in the bag, Instagram, Google profile).

The detailed calculation for a pizzeria moving part of its orders from marketplaces to a direct channel is in [this example at 400 orders a month](https://sigital.io/blog/direct-orders-savings-example).

## When a flat fee pays off

The rule is simple: **a flat fee pays off when you have enough orders to spread it over**. With 20 orders a month, a €60 fee is €3 per order; with 300 orders it is €0.20.

A flat fee is the right choice if:

- you already have regulars who call or message you;
- you want to know in advance what you spend, with no surprises in good months;
- you are ready to promote your link (QR code, social media, flyers).

A per-order commission can make sense if you are trying takeaway for the first time, with few orders, and do not want a fixed cost until you see whether it works. Many venues keep both: the marketplace to be found, the direct system for guests who come back.

## How much a pizzeria website with online ordering costs

There are two routes:

- **A custom website** built by an agency or a freelancer, with online ordering connected: the cost runs from a few thousand euros upwards, depending on features and developer, plus hosting, maintenance and updates. Always ask who updates the menu and what each change costs.
- **A ready-made online ordering service** that gives you a venue page with menu and ordering: you pay a fee or a commission, but no development. You put the link on the website you already have, on Instagram and on Google.

For a venue that sells mostly takeaway and delivery, the second route is almost always the cheaper one. If you are also thinking about an app, we did the maths in [how much a restaurant app costs](https://sigital.io/blog/restaurant-app-cost).

## What published price lists say

Some Italian providers publish their prices, which already helps. This is what their websites say in October 2026; price lists change, so always check the provider's page before deciding.

| Provider | What the price list says (according to its website, October 2026) |
|---|---|
| **Mobee** | No percentage on orders; 20 orders a month free, then order bundles (for example +400 orders for €39 a month); Mobee Express at €29 a month for advanced features, orders not included; store app as a €19-a-month module; the payment provider's fees still apply |
| **Ordinalo** | DELIVERY plan with website and app under the venue's brand at €990 a year, billed annually; no activation fee |
| **JMENU** | Free activation, no commission on sales; a €0.50 service fee per order charged to the guest |
| **Sigital** | Free €0 menu only; Premium €60 and Business €99 per month per venue; 0% platform commission, Stripe's fees still apply |

As you can see, "no commission" can mean different things: a flat fee, order bundles, a service fee paid by the guest. Always check how the software itself is paid for.

## What Sigital costs, item by item

Sigital is the software we build, so here are the items without beating around the bush:

- **Free, €0**: digital menu with QR code only (1 menu, up to 100 products). **No orders or reservations.**
- **Premium, €60 per month per venue**: online ordering for pickup and delivery with day and time slot, up to 3,000 orders per period, online payments with Stripe or payment on delivery, reservations.
- **Business, €99 per month per venue**: everything in Premium, up to 5,000 orders per period, email and WhatsApp campaigns and automated workflows.
- **Commissions**: 0% platform commission. Online payments carry Stripe's fees, and the money goes to the restaurant's own Stripe account.
- **iOS and Android app** with the venue's name and logo: €300 one-off per venue, Premium or Business only.
- **Upfront costs**: no development. You send the menu on WhatsApp (photo, PDF or Glovo/Just Eat link) and the assistant imports it; that is also where the 14-day Business trial starts, with no card.

What is **not** included, to be fair: Sigital is not a till and does not integrate with POS systems, it has no table ordering from the QR code and it does not accept PayPal. If you need any of these, put it in your comparison. Full features and prices are on [Sigital for restaurants](https://sigital.io/restaurants).

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does a restaurant online ordering system cost per month?

It depends on the model. With a flat fee you pay the same amount every month, with a marketplace a percentage of every order. On top of that come payment fees on orders paid online.

### Is a flat fee or a per-order commission better?

With few orders a commission can cost less. As orders grow, a flat fee almost always becomes cheaper, because it does not rise with your sales.

### Do I still pay payment fees with a flat-fee system?

Yes: on orders paid online by card the payment provider keeps its fee. On orders paid in cash on delivery there is none.

### How much does Sigital cost for online ordering?

Online ordering starts with Premium, €60 per month per venue, or Business, €99 per month per venue. 0% platform commission: online payments carry Stripe's fees.
